The Weinviertel
The wine-growing region of Weinviertel, north of Vienna, is a beautiful landscape with gentle hills, sweeping countryside and dense forests. The historic “Kellergassen”, (streets lined with wine cellars), are proof of the long tradition of wine production in the area. The climate and soils of the Weinviertel seem to be made for producing wine: a continental climate with hard winters and hot summers (the Weinviertel lies in the Pannonian climate region) and undulating hills with tertiary gravel, sand and clay soils with a high percentage of limestone.
These are ideal conditions for a very special wine, grüner veltliner Weinviertel-style: dry, spicy-fruity with characteristic pepperiness. Grüner veltliner is only allowed to carry the Weinviertel DAC seal of quality on the capsule when it reaches the highest standards of quality.
